About

Welcome to my blog!

My name is Ben Stewart.  This blog will serve to catalog my experiences as I serve aboard the Africa Mercy Ship as a volunteer Medical Supply Assistant. I will be serving approximately 15 months beginning June 2019 and concluding in September 2020.

Who am I?

For the past 7 years I have worked as a structural engineer in Missoula, Montana where among many things I was known as a lover of the outdoors, a board game enthusiast, a softball team captain, a connoisseur of the finest pizza, a sarcastic conversationalist, and a struggling disc golf player.

Why volunteer Mercy Ships?

I recently found that as a debt free young professional that I was in a rare and unique position in which I could take a sabbatical from professional life to pursue other ventures with very few consequences.

I felt a desire to push myself and to take part in meaningful work.  In my search I found the Mercy Ships organization and was astounded by their mission to love and provide healthcare for those in some of the poorest nations on earth.

I know very little about what I will actually be doing or what life aboard the ship will look like but I am excited to take part in their work to bring hope and healing to the people of West Africa. At the very least I hope to do my best to reflect God’s love to the people of Senegal.
